From Ranting to Reading

December 8, 2020

Ruby Gets Real started out as a blog to work out my issues.  My first post published on July 1, 2013 (otherwise knows as Canada Day) was entitled "I have issues"  This wasn't my first blog and it wasn't my first round of ranting for free on the internet.  Over the years, I have found the internet a relatively safe place to explore my journey.  I journal on occasion, but doing it online allowed me the feeling of "maybe what I have to say matters".  Instead of hiding my thoughts in pages of a journal and throwing that journal in a box somewhere to get forgotten for a few decades, I did what any brave soul would do.  I started blogging.

Fast forward to 2020.  I had shelved my "Ruby Gets Real" Blog five years prior because I figured my time for ranting on religion was over.  But I liked the title.  I like the idea that my blogging has been about me getting real, at least with myself.  Only this time, I wanted to read more and rant less.  I wanted to discover other authors journey's and see what I could learn and where my journey fit into the steps of where these authors were walking.

My reads are very diverse.  I mostly enjoy non fiction with real life stories and real journeys.  I have dipped into some heavy reading at times to stretch my brain, but I try not to drown myself in a lot of deep reads, so I mix it up.  I can have around five reads on the go at a time and I go back and forth between books.  Sometimes I find that too much time has passed and I have to start a book over.  That is just how I do it.  I don't necessarily recommend that approach to reading... it's  just how I do it.

My blog posts are a journey in journalling with the authors.  I share quotes from the book and add in my thoughts on their thoughts.  Sometimes in writing the blog, I venture into stories in my own life and I am thankful that the books take me into those places, which sometime require a bit of cleaning up and healing.

I try to remember to add a thank you to the authors for what they have contributed in my life. And when the blog post is published and I can track down an email address for the author, I like to send them a link to the blog post.  On a few occasions, I have received a reply back thanking me for my post.  Those replies are precious, and then I remember how precious it was for me to hear from people about my book, and then I can understand what my gratitude might mean to the authors I blog about.

I am a small town reader in the world of internet busy highways, but I still want to share what I have in me to share.  I would hope that others share what they have in them to share.  My advise... don't let the numbers prevent you from sharing what you have to share.  It is not so much about the traffic to your sight as it is this... YOU MATTER. I MATTER.  WE MATTER and what we have to say... MATTERS.   So let's share it.
